I am really, really loving writing this blog! 💕 I love sharing topics on writing and reading and connecting with other writers and book-lovers as well.
But, of course, blog-writing takes time and effort. And I want to finish my writing projects as well. I can’t really call myself an author without authoring any books, can I?
Well, here are my tips for keeping your blog alive and well~ while at the same time giving your fiction and book-writing your FULL attention.
1. Brainstorm Topics in One Sitting
I’m not always in a super-creative mood. Sometimes I am very poetic, while other times I am very technical. That’s why I love to come up with all my blog topics when I’m having those super-creative days!
Make a list of topics you’d like to blog about based on your blog’s theme.
Dump everything on a list, even if you don’t think the topic is great. The more you allow yourself to empty your mind, the more topics will come out, and some of those are bound to be quality topics. Then simply come back and choose a topic when you’re feeling creative.
2. Write Lots of Posts on Your Creative Days
You know the days I’m talking about: you’re full of prose and ideas and creative writing, and you are just bursting with art! 💕 You could sit at your desk for hours and just write, write, write!
Take advantage of those mentally-alert and imaginative days to write as many posts as you can.
Keep the flow of writing coming, because you never know if you’ll have a writing block or a flu coming up. Life happens, and you may not always feel like working on your blog. This will also help you to…
3. Schedule Your Posts
Once you have a few blog posts written, simply use the WordPress scheduling feature. Choose your ideal day and time, and spread your blogs out throughout the month. It’s super easy!
Try not to put them too close together~ give yourself book-writing days in between.
The goal here is to give yourself enough time between blogs so that you can forget about the blog and focus 100% on your book. Fix it and forget it!
4. Schedule Your Posts Consistently
I prefer to post every Sunday morning. This gives me an entire week to focus on my fiction-writing. Also, as a blog-reader…
I like to see one or two posts weekly, on the same days, rather than three posts one week, none for two weeks, then four in a row, then… ack!
I love, love, love to read blogs, but I have a schedule. I like to know when my favorite bloggers post. I also like to feel that I am consistently reminded of them, instead of seeing them erratically all over the place.
5. Have Fun, and Don’t Prioritize the Blog!
If, like me, you want to have an author’s blog, then you must be an author. That means we gotta write books! 😂 And writing books takes lots of time and effort.
If you prioritize the blog, you take time away from writing your book.
So, have fun! Enjoy the blog, but keep in mind that your goal is to be an author 😊 I mean, if you want to be a blogger, that’s okay too~ but if you want to write a book, you must dedicate a lot of your time to the book.
What are your tips for balancing blogging and book writing?
LMK in the comments!
Here’s a little secret: I wrote this post on October 4th, 2018 😁 Of course, I always drop by to read your comments and reply, but I do schedule these ahead of time. Doing this helped me focus on school and on publishing my non-fiction book.
